Chris Loscalzo updated this list of the birds of New Haven County, Connecticut, in 2017. This checklist shows the seasonal occurrence and relative abundance of 368 species of birds that have been observed in the county in the past 20 years.
eBird is managed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and is among the world’s largest biodiversity-related science projects, with more than 100 million bird sightings contributed annually by eBirders around the world. Birders use eBird to document bird distribution, abundance, habitat use, and trends through checklist data.
New Haven Bird Club member Florence McBride has created a book for educators and beginning birders about some of the birds of Hamden, Connecticut. This book is available free of charge and may be downloaded and shared for non-commercial personal or educational use.

Founded in 1984, Connecticut Ornithological Association (COA) is an all-volunteer organization with the mission of promoting interest in Connecticut birds and collecting, preparing, and disseminating the best available scientific information on the status of Connecticut birds and their habitats. COA is responsible for maintaining state records and coordinates major activities like the Christmas counts. They also have educational opportunities, walks and conferences. COA also maintains a very valuable combined calendar of birding activities by various groups in Connecticut and detailed birding maps of Hammonasset and East Rock parks.
Connecticut Audubon is an independent Audubon organization headquartered in Fairfield and custodian of Milford Point and other beautiful sanctuaries.
Audubon Connecticut is the state organization affiliated with the National Audubon Society.
The Hartford Audubon Society is a independent birding organization similar in age to the NHBC.
The Audubon Alliance for Coastal Waterbirds is a partnership between local conservation organizations formed to protect shoreline nesting bird species, such as the Piping Plover, Least Tern, and American Oystercatcher, through monitoring and outreach.
