SUMMARY:Field Trip - Hammonasset Beach State Park\, Madison - Corrie Folsom O'Keefe
DESCRIPTION:Join Corrie Folsom-O’Keefe\, Director of Bird Conservation for the CT Office of the National Audubon Society\, for a walk at Hammonasset Beach State Park\, one of CT’s most productive birding destinations at all seasons of the year. We’ll look for shorebirds\, waterfowl\, raptors\, late migrants\, and other over-wintering birds. The park’s varied habitats include over 400 acres of salt marsh\, which have eroded substantially in recent years\, reducing the amount of habitat available for beach nesting (Piping Plover\, Least Tern) and salt marsh birds (Saltmarsh Sparrow\, Seaside Sparrow\, Willet\, Clapper Rail). Corrie will discuss the birds that use Hammonasset for nesting\, stopover\, or wintering\, and describe efforts to prevent future erosion and increase the resilience of the Park’s natural resources. \nMeet at the Meigs Point Nature Center. \nLeader: Corrie Folsom O’Keefe 203-233-0535\, cfolsom-okeefe@audubon.org
