SUMMARY:CANCELLED - Field Trip - Rhode Island Coast - Chris Loscalzo
DESCRIPTION:Update 2/25/26: The New Haven Bird Club’s field trip along the Rhode Island Shore\, scheduled for Saturday\, February 28\, is cancelled. A scouting trip showed that neither parking nor walking will be possible for the group at many of the sites.  \nThis all-day trip includes stops at Beavertail State Park\, Moonstone Beach\, Trustum Pond\, and other great birding sites along the Rhode Island coast. We will see lots of sea ducks including all three scoter species\, Common Eider\, and Harlequin Duck. We’ll look for birds of prey\, including Rough-legged Hawk and several owl species. We’ll also be on the lookout for alcids and rare gulls. Dress warmly—it’s likely to be cold and windy on the coast. The walk can be a bit strenuous. Bring lunch and a scope\, if you have one. \nSnow date: Sunday\, March 1\, 2026 \nMeet at the Branford commuter lot\, Exit 55 off I-95\, or contact the trip leader for time and location of the first stop in Rhode Island. \nLeader: Chris Loscalzo\, 203-214-3473 or closcalz@optonline.net
