Learning bird songs and calls increases one’s perception of what birds are in the area. Want to see a Scarlet Tanager? It helps to know their “chick burr” call. Also, by knowing the songs of common birds, you will notice when a not-so-common bird is in the vicinity. Join Corrie Folsom-O’Keefe for three 45-minute webinars on April 5th, 12th, and 19th, each starting at 7 p.m. During each webinar, participants will learn the songs of 10 bird species and the habitats the birds associate with. We will start with some resident birds, then focus on migrants that will be arriving in Connecticut over the course of the webinars. Limit 25 people for the webinar. Following the webinars, there will be two walks at Bent of the River for 10 people each. Watch for the NHBC email announcement to sign up for the webinar series and to be eligible for the drawing for the walk. The walk meets at Bent of the River Wildlife Sanctuary, 185 East Flat Hill Road, Southbury, CT. Take Exit 14 off of Rte. 84. Go north on Rte. 172, then turn left onto East Flat Hill Road (church on corner). Continue to sanctuary entrance on left.
