Indoor Program – Gospel of Beauty – Barbara Lamb and Donald Grant Mitchell

Donald Grant Mitchell was drawn to nature from a very early age. Growing up on a farm in Salem, Connecticut, nature was always close at hand. Educated in the classics, Mitchell had a studied knowledge of the philosophy of beauty, especially the beauty of nature, through his exposure to the great writers and philosophers from an earlier time. His farm, landscape, garden, and park designs reflect that knowledge and his commitment to it. Mitchell lived on his farm, Edgewood, in the village of Westville and was well known by the founders of the New Haven Bird Club. Barbara Lamb is the former Director of Cultural Affairs for the City of New Haven and Chair of the Donald Grant Mitchell Bicentennial Committee. She holds a Master’s Degree in Urban & Regional Planning from the London School of Economics.
