Field Trip – Osprey Open Day at West River Memorial Park, Barnard Nature Center –
June 8, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
The West River Memorial Park is a designated IBA (Important Bird Area) and is part of the New Haven Harbor Urban Refuge Partnership. The Urban Oasis here improves annually, and the osprey platform has been active with the same male-female pair for many years. By this time in June, the chicks will have hatched and be visible on the nest, with parent birds providing a show of fishing and feeding. Menunkatuck Audubon and NHBC will provide bird spotting telescopes to watch the Ospreys interact with their chicks. Meet at 200 Derby Avenue, near Barnard Nature Center. Enter the parking lot from Derby Ave (Rt. 34) near the intersection of Grasso Blvd, New Haven.
