Dr. Scott Gavaletz – Birds of New Haven as Seen by Branford Veterinary Hospital
January 9, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Avian patients are a rare sight in most veterinary hospitals. Pet birds don’t require annual vaccines and often don’t show any signs of illness until it’s too late. Oftentimes the stress involved in transporting a bird to the veterinary hospital or the risk of escape or injury will outweigh the potential advantage of an annual checkup. In addition, locating a veterinarian who will see an avian patient—pet or wildlife—can be challenging. Dr. Gavaletz will present a collection of avian cases seen at the Branford Veterinary Hospital. While the main focus will be on wildlife, cases involving pet birds and backyard chickens may be shared as well. All the cases presented will be birds from New Haven County. Dr. Gavaletz is veterinarian and owner of the Branford Veterinary Hospital. In the field for 22 years, his passion is in exotic animal and wildlife medicine. He holds a B.S. degree in zoology from Southern Connecticut State University and a D.V.M from the University of Florida.
