Earth’s rapid urbanization continues and the decades ahead are projected to see the largest and fastest period of urban expansion in history. To live in urban areas, urban birds must adjust many aspects of their life. Dr. Scott Davies will talk about his research into when urban songbirds breed, how good they are at raising young, and how well they defend their territories. Scott Davies, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Quinnipiac University whose research focuses on the environmental physiology of songbirds. Originally from the United Kingdom, Scott received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Wales, Bangor before moving to the United States to complete his PhD. at Arizona State University. He then continued his research in environmental physiology of songbirds at Virginia Tech and the University of Nevada, Reno. At Quinnipiac University, he is investigating how Tree Swallows adjust to living in urban areas of the Quinnipiac River valley.
